Via Querinissima – From myth to history
Discover the Via Querinissima: a fascinating journey in the footsteps of Pietro Querini, who connected the countries of northern and southern Europe by sea and land.
The Association, established in Venice on 6 June 2022, is seeking to be recognised as a European Cultural Route by the Council of Europe. But the Via Querinissima is much more than just a route. It is an experience that embraces cultural diversity, captivating stories and traditions spanning millennia, weaving a unique bond under a common heritage.
We value individual characteristics while promoting intercultural dialogue and sustainable tourism. Via Querinissima is an invitation to immerse yourself in an authentic and enchanting journey, exploring the regions in depth and letting yourself be carried away by emotions at every step.
Although Piero Querini's voyage started from the port of Heraklion from which he sailed to trade mainly Cretan products (including Malvasia di Candia wine) and although his maritime odyssey ended up bringing cultural and gastronomic innovations that after 6 centuries still characterize our everyday life. Its history is not sufficiently known in Heraklion, in Crete, in Greece
The inhabitants of the area now called Malevizi, where Querini was appointed feudal lord, have the nickname "Codfish", but they are unaware of the reason. Like most Greeks, they are unaware of the fact that the reason they traditionally eat Bacalao on the national holiday of 25thης March is because Querini started and ended his adventurous journey from the Venetian port of Heraklion.
The membership in the Association and the participation in its Cultural Route dedicated to Piero Querini, have a double meaning for 3win Action. From the cultural dimension, the motivation is to contribute to the further study and dissemination of his life in Heraklion, the places where he lived and his role as a public figure and as a merchant, as well as the organization of educational tourist events for residents and visitors, based on such a unique cultural heritage.
In order to add specific content to the programme of activities that the Association will offer each year to the visitors of the Route. 3win Action collaborates with other local bodies and with the members of the Via Querinissima Association to plan and manage the cultural tourism programme of the Route in Heraklion.
